Why Gravenhurst

Gravenhurst is the gateway to Muskoka: the first cottage-country town you reach on Highway 11, which means the shortest drive from the city and the easiest Friday-night arrival. Doe Lake is a quiet, smaller lake just outside town, so you get real lake privacy without the boat traffic of the big three lakes, and you are still ten minutes from a full grocery store, the LCBO, waterfront dining at the Muskoka Wharf, the Segwun steamship, the Opera House and the summer farmers' market. Bracebridge and Huntsville are short drives for more restaurants and shopping.

The cottage

  • Chef's kitchen with Frigidaire Professional appliances, a double fridge-freezer, quartz island and cookware for 12.
  • Fire pit with seating, BBQ deck, high-speed Wi-Fi, heating and air conditioning, laundry, parking for six cars. Pets welcome (max two).
  • Bring the boat. The dock fits a small motorboat and the public launch is a five-minute drive.

Things to do from the door

Swim, paddle and fish on Doe Lake; hiking trails start a five-minute walk away; Hardy Lake Provincial Park and the Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve are nearby for a day hike and some of the best stargazing in southern Ontario. In town, the Muskoka Wharf, the boat cruise and the Opera House fill a rainy afternoon. In winter the cottage stays warm and Hidden Valley ski hill is a short drive north.
