What twelve people actually need
Most "sleeps 12" cottages get there with bunk beds and air mattresses. Knot a Care was designed in 2025 for groups of friends and multi-family trips:
- Five real bedrooms - a primary suite with spa ensuite, walk-in closet and laundry, queen and double rooms, and a tipi room the kids fight over.
- 3.5 bathrooms, so nobody queues before dinner.
- A chef's kitchen with Frigidaire Professional appliances, a double fridge-freezer, quartz island and dishes for 12. Cooking for a crowd is the point, not a chore.
- One big open room under cathedral ceilings where everyone ends up, with lake views from nearly every window.
- Outside: a private dock with Muskoka chairs, kayaks and paddleboards, a fire pit with seating, a BBQ deck and 2.37 acres of shoreline. Parking for six cars.
- High-speed Wi-Fi throughout, heating and air conditioning, linens and towels included.
What it costs for a full house
The base rate covers up to 8 adults; adults 9 to 12 add $100 per person per night, children 2 to 12 are $100 per night, and the cleaning fee is $400 per stay. For twelve adults over a three-night fall weekend that works out to roughly $60 to $70 per person per night, all in. Peak summer weekends are higher; midweek and shoulder season are lower. The booking page shows the exact nightly rate for any dates and the full total before you pay.
Good for
Milestone birthdays, friends' weekends, family reunions, a wedding party the weekend before the wedding, a company offsite that wants a lake instead of a boardroom. Children of all ages are welcome (crib on request) and so are up to two dogs.
Where it is
Doe Lake sits five minutes outside Gravenhurst, the first town you reach in Muskoka: about two hours up Highway 400 and Highway 11 from downtown Toronto. Groceries, the LCBO and the Muskoka Wharf restaurants are a ten-minute drive; hiking trails start a five-minute walk from the door. The lake has a gentle sandy entry that is easy for kids and swimmers, and the dock takes a small motorboat if you bring one (public launch five minutes away).
